Sultans of Swing

Dire Straits

"Sultans of Swing" was the first single release of the British rock band Dire Straits. Although it was first released in 1978, it was its 1979 re-release that caused it to become a hit in both the UK and USA.
The song was first recorded as a demo at Pathway Studios, North London, in July 1977, and quickly acquired a following after it was put on rotation at Radio London. Its popularity soon reached record executives and Dire Straits were offered a contract with Phonogram Records. The song was then re-recorded in early 1978 at Basing Street Studios for the band's debut album Dire Straits. The record company wanted a less-polished rock sound for the radio, so an alternative version was recorded at Pathway Studios in April 1978 and released as the single in some countries including the United Kingdom and Germany.
The song was written by Mark Knopfler on a rainy day in a bar in Ipswich. The inspiration came from a mediocre jazz band playing in the corner of a practically deserted pub. At the end of their performance, the lead singer came up to the microphone and announced that they were the "Sultans of Swing".

Sublime

Os estilos musicais pelo álbum variam, passando do reggae "Caress Me Down" ao pop rock de "What I Got", o ska em "Same in the End" e o punk rock de "Paddle Out".

(English)

Sublime is the third and final album released by ska-punk band Sublime. Originally intended to be titled Killin' It, the band and record label agreed to substitute an eponymoustitle due to lead singer Bradley Nowell's death prior to the album's release. After debating whether to hire a replacement for Nowell or break up, the surviving members decided to end Sublime (though a temporary reunion with new singer and guitarist Rome Ramirez occurred in 2009 before changing the name to Sublime with Rome).
The album was a major commercial success, selling over 6 million copies by 2010 and etching Sublime into a permanent place among the stars of mid-90s alternative rock. The album was faithful to Sublime's ska, punk, dub and reggae influences, with tempos ranging from the frantic — such as "Seed," "Same in the End," and "Paddle Out" — to the slow and deliberate, such as "Pawn Shop" and "Jailhouse."
Sublime was the band's only album on a major label (MCA) after several releases onSkunk Records.

Times like these

Foo Fighters

(English)

"Times Like These" is the second single released from the Foo Fighters' fourth albumOne by One.
The lyrics discuss how Dave Grohl felt "like I wasn't entirely myself" during the three-month hiatus the Foo Fighters entered following the tense and unsatisfying first recording sessions for One by One, as well as his uncertaintity about the future of the band. The lyric "I'm a new day rising" is a reference to the album New Day Rising by Hüsker Dü, one of Grohl's favorite groups.
"Times Like These" is in D mixolydian mode in the key of D major and the section that begins at 0:13 is in 7/4 time. The chorus of the song is also grouped in bars of 3 rather than the regular bars of 4.
After the album version ended its run on the charts, a solo acoustic version of the song performed by Grohl was released and had some success on pop and adult contemporary radio but generally it enjoyed great success on rock and alternative radio just like the original electric version. The entire band performed a version of the song with jazz pianistChick Corea during the Grammy Awards in 2004.

Learn to fly

            Foo Fighters

There Is Nothing Left to Lose.

(English)

"Learn to Fly" is the first single from the Foo Fighters' third album There Is Nothing Left to Lose, release in 1999.
The music video for the song takes place on an commercial airliner, parodying the movieAirplane!, and by extension, the films Airport 1975 and its sequel Airport '77. Two airline mechanics (played by Jack Black and Kyle Gass from Tenacious D) smuggle and hide their narcotic known as "World Domination brand 'Erotic' Sleeping Powder" in the coffee-maker. This ends up incapacitating everyone who drinks the coffee. The take off sequence, in addition to the crew members hiding ulterior criminal motives, are a near shot-by-shot homage to the film Airport '77. The band, having avoided the coffee (choosing liquor instead), mirroring Karen Black's role in Airport 1975, find themselves forced to land the plane. For the video, each band member (Dave GrohlNate Mendel and Taylor Hawkins) portrays himself as well as several other roles, including an FBI agent who arrests the two mechanics. Also, as in the music video for "Monkey Wrench", a Foo Fighters song is played as Muzak in the beginning, this time with "Everlong" from The Colour and the Shape. The premise of smuggling drugs in airplane coffee is nearly identical to an actual smuggling operation that was uncovered in 1997.
The video was filmed in LondonUnited Kingdom in a cabin crew training airplane. The video won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Short Form Music Video.
